Sometimes change is a good thing.
Such was the case for Bill Jinske, owner of BENE-FIT Health and Fitness
of Kansas City. He was frustrated that his online fitness design and
management company was not generating the sales he had predicted.
He knew he needed to reinvent, but he wasn't sure how to get it done.
After attending a Kauffman FastTrac training program, he was referred
to Carmen DeHart, business development counselor for the SBDC at the
University of Missouri-Kansas City. Together they determined that
a redirection of the company's marketing mix was in order. The goal
was to transition from a predominantly online presence to an actual
store front fitness and health center based on a preventive medical
model.
Carmen
provided Bill with market research and worked with him to draw conclusions
from the marketing data. After having identified two potential locations
for his businesses, Bill worked with Carmen to review the demographics
of each location. They also worked on budget projections for the company's
first year. Following the selection of a location, Carmen provided
on-site assistance with bookkeeping and operational procedures.
Now open five months, Bill has seven employees that help clients
with a variety of health and fitness needs. Although it's a different
way of doing business than what Bill had originally envisioned, the
company is off to a great start.
