Predicting Future Cash Needs

This course is the third in a series of financial management offerings that are specifically designed to help the small business owner get a handle on the financial side of the operation.

In this three-hour session, we'll show you how to use a Cash Budget to prepare future performance of a business. Participants will learn to estimate future sources and uses of cash. They will also learn how to analyze those predictions to make more informed decisions. Participants will leave this session feeling more comfortable about decisions related to preparing for growth, realistic loan and financing requests, how much cash they can safely take out of the business, and making affordable purchases for the business.

Discussions are facilitated by business counselors who will help you examine your individual situation, explore opportunities and discover new ideas. You'll learn from other participants and have a host of valuable resources available to you.

After examining case study scenarios, you'll learn to create a cash budget. The tools and strategies learned in this session can be applied to your business to help make decisions about making new investments, taking money out of the business, taking on new products or services to grow your business and other important financial decisions.

This isn't theory — it's practical application for real businesses — like yours!

Here's what you'll learn:

  • Forecast sales, receivables, and expenses of the business to create a clear picture of where the business is headed.

  • Use a cash budget as a tool to create a month-by-month view of the future.

  • Calculate break-even to analyze if the business can handle change, whether it is expansion of the business, additions to the workforce, or capital expenditures.
