How to Use IRS Tax Map - IRS Tax Map has been designed for ease of use and accessibility. Research a subject of interest or pick a document from a list of forms and publications.

IRS Tax Products

and publications, approved before
this product was published
. Tax products
released after
this CD-ROM went into production
can be downloaded from the IRS World
Wide Web SBRG
Updates page.
The tax products on this CD-ROM provided in Adobe's Portable
Document Format (PDF) file structure are produced from the same
PostScript files used to create the original camera copy for printing
the bulk quantities for IRS. Forms that are "optically read" (e.g.
Form 1096 and the 1099 series), must be screened properly and
printed in the correct color, in order to match the "official"
IRS printed product. Procedures contained in IRS Publication 1167
(Catalog #47013F), Substitute Printed, Computer-Prepared and Computer-Generated
Tax Forms and Schedules, apply to the reproduction of IRS forms.
Many Taxpayer Information Publications (TIPS) and Forms Instructions
are also provided in Hypertext Markup Language (HTML). If the
printed version of the publication has an index it will be included
in the electronic version.
This year's SBRG CD-ROM again provides the fill in and save
forms feature. A feature of Adobe Acrobat that enables the CD-ROM
user
to enter data on a tax form and print the form with the data
on it. You cannot file these fill-in forms electronically. PDF
files
enable you to view, search text, navigate, fill in and print
pages of information in the same format that you are accustomed
to seeing
on paper products.
Paper copies of IRS products that are not contained on this disc
may be ordered by calling (800) 829-3676.
IRS electronic information can be accessed via the World Wide
Web at www.irs.gov.
There are over 900 current tax forms with instructions and over
100 publications available for downloading. Many tax research
tools are available including tax regulations, tax topics, frequently
asked questions, statistical studies, important changes, newsletters
and much more. There is also information on a variety of programs
like Electronic Filing, TeleFile, 1040-PC, and others.
Adobe Reader (PDF Files)
To read PDF files you must install the Adobe Reader software found on this CD or already have Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader installed on your computer system. This CD is best viewed using Adobe Reader 7 or higher.
This CD-ROM contains the free Adobe Reader 7 software that can be installed on your computer and requires – Windows XP, Windows 2000. You may download Adobe Reader software from Adobe’s website for many operating systems and versions, including hand-held and pocket devices . Adobe Reader will enable you to enter data on tax forms, print out the forms with the completed data on them, and save the completed forms to a local storage device.
Help with Fill-In Tax Forms
Forms with fill-in properties have “document rights” assigned to them, which allow you to save the filled-in information to your local hard drive using the free Adobe Acrobat Reader. Some versions of Adobe Reader permit you to save your files and to print them out. There is no computation or verification of the information you enter and you are still responsible for entering all required information on IRS forms (some instructions may require you to hand-write an amount on the form).
Text Box - To fill-in a text box, make sure the hand is selected and move your mouse over a fill-in area until the hand turns to an "I." Select the field and the "I" will appear in position to begin entering information. We have standardized on justified left for a character data box and justified right for numeric data.
Note: Text boxes can be multi or single-line. A multi-line field allows you to use a carriage return when entering information. We have used a multi-line field when name and address is requested in the same box. However, the majority of the fill-in areas are single line.
Multi Lingual Initiative
Over the past decade, there has been a significant increase in the non-English speaking or multilingual population in the U.S. Language barriers represent a problem for all federal agencies. The IRS has recognized for many years that language can be a major barrier for non-English speaking taxpayers in fully exercising their tax rights and responsibilities.
The IRS is committed to providing top quality service to address the needs of those taxpayers that lack a full command of the English language. The Multilingual Initiative (MLI) was established in 2001, with participation across all IRS Operating Divisions, to provide expanded customer service to help non-English speaking taxpayers meet their tax obligations.
To meet customer needs, the IRS is now focused on providing written products to its Spanish-speaking taxpayers. The information that is provided on this CD includes all business tax products that have been translated into Spanish. For more tax-related information in Spanish visit the IRS website.
