       Instructions for Project Profile Forms


A. Make a list of keywords

Think of words related to your research topic. These keywords will be used in electronic search engines to locate potential solicitation topics across federal agencies involved in the SBIR/STTR program.

B. Search SBIR/STTR Solicitation Topics
The Solicitations listed on SBIR Gateway are copies from the various SBIR/STTR agency solicitations and are not necessarily the latest and most up-to-date. For this reason, you should use the suggested links at the bottom of each reference page. These will take you directly to the appropriate agency server where you can obtain the official version of the entire solicitation including the agency's rules and necessary forms.
  1. Open the link to the Gateway to Success: www.missouribusiness.net/fast/gateway/
  2. Under Search Services open the link to Open SBIR/STTR Solicitations or open the link to Closed SBIR/STTR Solicitations. Be sure to search both open and closed solicitations for topics.
  3. Enter keyword(s) in the search for field
  4. Select agency from drop list
  5. Select Search Solicitations
  6. Review search results.
  7. Click on highlighted solicitation topic link to review topic description.

  8. Follow the suggested links to the appropriate agency information at the bottom where you the official version of the solicitation you are interested in.

  9. Perform new search, if necessary by repeating steps 3 thru 9
C. Search Past Winners SBIR/STTR Awards
The database, http://tech-net.sba.gov, offers an electronic search engine for individuals seeking small business partners, small business contractors and subcontractors, leading edge technology research, research partners (small businesses, universities, federal labs and non-profit organizations), manufacturing centers and investment opportunities.

D. Search Pro-Net for Business Profiles
The database, http://tech-net.sba.gov, offers an electronic search engine for contracting officers and serves as a marketing tool for small businesses that register with the system. It contains the profiles of thousands of small firms.

E. SBIR/STTR Agency Program Links
Open the link to get a complete list of agencies and their websites involved in the SBIR/STTR program: www.missouribusiness.net/fast/gateway/agency_links.asp

F. SBIR/STTR Solicitation Date Finder
In the Gateway to Success, open the link to solicitation dates http://www.zyn.com/sbir/scomp.htm

G. Complete the Project Profile form provided by Missouri SBIR Assistance Center
After completing steps A thru F, you should have zeroed on a solicitation topic appropriate for your research plan. The next step is to obtain the project profile form from our center's website - Gateway to Success, www.missouribusiness.net/fast/gateway, follow the instructions, and electronically return your profile to begin the first phase of the process.
